Despite being unanimously panned by critics, the film broke box office records and earned Rs 52 crore on its opening day (including the Tamil and Telugu-dubbed versions). The Hindi version alone raked in Rs 50.75 crore.
Following the record breaking collections on the opening day , the mega action movie has fallen flat. On the day 2 of its box office run , Thugs of Hindostan witnessed huge drop in its collection and managed to collect 28.25 crores at the box office. After such an alarming drop on the second day , trade analysts are expected it to wrap up under 180 crores. If we compare the opening day numbers with Aamir Khan’s last release Dangal, the wrestling based movie had registered collections of Rs 29.78 crore on Day One, including Rs 59 lakh from its Tamil and Telugu versions. Dangal due to its strong word of mouth jumped its biz by 16 percent on the day 2 collecting 34.82 crores. While Thugs of Hindostan has fell flat on the day 2 registering a huge 55 per cent drop. The latest release was hugely expected to challenge Bahubali 2 numbers but it falls pale in comparison to 40 and 40.75 crores collected by the South blockbuster.
Thugs of Hindostan is one of the biggest Bollywood films in quite a while. Backed by a production house like Yash Raj Films, it stars bigwigs like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan. It is set in the late 18th century and is based on Amitabh Bachchan’s Khudabaksh Azaad-led band of thugs that is fighting against the British East India Company rule.
